What to put on an invoice for cleaners
As well as the basics that every invoice needs (your details, the client’s details, a number, a date and a total), cleaners should include:
- The address you cleaned, if it differs from the billing address
- The date of each visit, or the period the invoice covers
- Hours worked and your hourly rate, or the fixed price you agreed
- Products or equipment you paid for yourself, on a separate line

Getting paid without chasing
For weekly and fortnightly clients, one invoice at the end of the month is easier for everyone than one per visit. Put the visit dates in the description so the client can check them against their diary.
End-of-tenancy and deep cleans are usually quoted as a fixed price. Describe what the price covered, such as carpets, oven and windows, so there is no argument when the landlord inspects.

Questions
Should a cleaner invoice per visit or per month?
Either works. Monthly invoices mean less paperwork for regular clients. One-off jobs are best invoiced the day you finish, with payment due on receipt.
Do I need to add VAT to a cleaning invoice?
Only if your business is VAT registered. If it is not, leave tax switched off and do not show a VAT number.
